Kauai "Bali Hai" Sunset - 2004
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I have spent time painting in the Hawaiian Islands for many years and it is here that I have found one of the chief sources of inspiration for my artwork. The true joy I obtain from my painting is to try and capture the wonderful places that I see while traveling. I enjoy painting images of tropical rain forests, water reflections, lily ponds, koi ponds, and sunsets. Though Hawaiian themes have been my primary focus, other favorite subjects include flowers and seascapes. Having had the recent opportunity to live in the East Bay area of California my work has been influenced by the incredibly beautiful landscapes that surrounded me in every direction. Now that I have a home in Princeville on the island of Kauai, I will have even more opportunities to capture the amazing beauty of the Hawaiian Islands. My main medium is oil on canvas, though I like to travel with watercolors so that I can quickly capture the beauty of a special place.
I studied at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston School of Art and the Glassell School of Art. I have studied with many local and nationally recognized artists and have won awards at the local, state and international levels. My work is in private collections in the USA, Canada, and Europe.
