Kauai "Bali Hai" Sunset - 2004
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I spend time every year in the Hawaiian Islands and it is there that I have found one of the chief sources of inspiration for my artwork. The true joy I obtain from my painting is to try and capture the wonderful places that I see while traveling. I enjoy painting images of tropical rain forests, water reflections, lily ponds, koi ponds, and sunsets. Though Hawaiian themes have been my primary focus, other favorite subjects include flowers and seascapes. Now that I have recently moved to the East Bay area of California my work is influenced by the incredibly beautiful landscapes that surround me in every direction. My main medium is oil on canvas, though I like to travel with watercolors so that I can quickly capture the beauty of a special place.
I studied at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston School of Art and the Glassell School of Art. I have studied with many local and nationally recognized artists and have won awards at the local, state and international levels. My work is in private collections in the USA, Canada, and Europe.
